土地资源是三大地质资源(矿产资源、水资源、土地资源)之一，是人类生产活动最基本的资源和劳动对象。人类对土地的利用程度反映了人类文明的发展，但同时也造成对土地资源的直接破坏，这主要表现为不合理垦植引起的水土流失、土地沙漠化、土地次生盐碱化及土壤污染等，而其中水 土流失尤为严重，乃当今世界面临的又一个严重危机。据估计，世界耕地的表土流失量约为230亿吨/年。
